Actor James Gandolfini, Tony Soprano in HBO`s smash hit series "The Sopranos", is going to make a film about the tumultuous love story of Martha Gellhorn and Ernest Hemingway. Lars Ulrich will play the role of Joris Ivens. Anton Corbijn called the European Foundation Joris Ivens and asked about sound recordings in which the English pronunciation of Ivens can be heard.

This year the HBO production began shooting in Hollywood. Nicole Kidman plays the role of war correspondent Martha Gellhorn and Clive Owen of the American writer. Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich takes on the role of Joris Ivens. Anton Corbijn, a friend of Ulrich asked the European Foundation Joris Ivens about sound recordings that could help Ulrich get the right pronunciation. When Hemingway left for Spain he arranged that Martha Gellhorn could also come toMadrid. There they met Joris Ivens and John Ferno. Both Gellhorn as Hemingway were impressed by the Dutch filmmaker. They said Ivens appeared funny and calm, even at the frontline. What Hollywood is going to make of the love story or what mystification surrounding Ivens will be dramatised is unknown. That it will be smooth and historically unreliable is certain since it’s aHollywood film. Director Philip Kaufman has made his mark as a screenplay writer of the Indiana Jones series and as a director of The Right Stuff, The Wanderers, The Unbearable Lightness of Being and the remake of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers.  HBO did not yet announce when the TVfilm will be broadcasted.
